Young adults crossing multiple times for a better life
This article was showing the extreme increase in the number of young adults trying to cross the border illegally to get into the United States. Most of these young adults are on their second or higher number of tries to unsuccessfully cross the US border. This article shows how far one man will go to get out of their current living situation. Due to poverty and poor living conditions and to reunite themselves with their family. This has shown me how much I don't know and how much more I should care about what is happening at the border then what I knew already. This connects perfectly to The Distance Between Us due to the fact that this shows that many families have the same situation as the Grande's did at Reyna's young age. Many of these children have dreams that are considered a standard in our country like learning English and graduating high school. This has showed me that many children do not get the opportunities that the majority of Americans do. Many children live illegally in the U.S just like the Grande's, hoping to get a good education so that they can live a better life than the one they would be living if the stayed at their previous home in Mexico or other Central American countries. I believe that we should be accepting to these dreams before we so quickly deport these people who are looking for a better life.
